Yod'm 3D is a fantastic little piece of software allows you to have virtual desktops with a 3D cube effect for the transitions. Note that it works on XP and Vista! It behaves very and is not CPU consuming.
This free software will allow you to have 4 virtual desktops each in a space of there own
We use it frequently and we just had to share this wonderfull tool

Better off using linux which has had it for a couple of years and a much better implementation.
